Frequently Asked Questions
What is Metrowest?Metrowest
is a youth basketball organization in Massachusetts run by Mass Premier
Courts in Foxboro. Metrowest is a competitive travel basketball program
for towns in Massachusetts and now Rhode Island. Metrowest has been
operating for over 20 years.
How long has BYBA been involved in Metrowest?2019-2020 will
be Barrington's ninth season playing in Metrowest. Our first year we
placed 4 teams in the league and last winter we placed 10 teams (8 boys
and 3 girls)
What grade levels are available?BYBA
can place players in leagues that span from 4th to 8th grade for both
boys and girls. We also allow 3rd graders to tryout for our 4th grade
teams
What is the cost of our program?$400
per player. The fee includes all practices, uniform, games, a
tournament and metro playoffs tournament. This fee is paid after you are
selected to play on a team and accept said placement.
When are the games played?Games
are on Sundays starting the first week of December through early
March. No games during Christmas vacation but there will be games during
February vacation. There is a 12 game regular season schedule and
playoffs for all teams in early March
Where are the games played?
We
have an agreement with Mass Premier Courts for each team to have 2-3
home games in Barrington and 2-3 home games at Mass Premier Courts in
Foxboro. Six games will be road games at neighboring towns in the 95
area of Massachusetts
When and where are practices?
Teams
will practice at least twice a week and some teams will practice three
times. Either two evenings a week or an evening and a Saturday afternoon
practice. All practices will be in Barrington at St. Andrew's School or
Barrington Middle School
Do all teams play in the same division of Metrowest?
No.
Metrowest has four or five different division levels in each grade and
BYBA has the ability to place teams in the division we feel is the best
fit for our teams. Some BYBA teams will play in higher divisions while
some will play in lower divisions. We can place teams in multiple
divisions in the same grade level as well
Do you place all players on teams?
No,
there will be players not selected for a team. BYBA will try to place
as many players on appropriate level teams depending skill level,
enrollment, available gym time and availability of coaches. There will
be A and B teams in divisions where enrollment is sufficient and there
is availability of gym time and coaches
What is the team selection process like?
Players
will be evaluated at two separate tryout sessions by coaches in their
respective grade levels and by board members. The coaching staff and
board selects each respective team collaboratively based on
player evaluations at tryouts.
I've heard about RIYBA, is that different?
RIYBA is the RI Youth Basketball Association and Barrington Youth Basketball is a member of RIYBA. RIYBA sponsors weekend tournaments around the state. As members, BYBA teams can play in RIYBA tournaments at the discretion of individual coaches. There is not a separate RIYBA league.
